Word from the President.

I’m very excited to share our very first newsletter of 2020! Even though no newsletters were sent in 2019, does not mean we did nothing, we did EVERYTHING! New look, new team members, new programs, reorganizing, streamlining, and we just keep getting better and better. We are committed to producing monthly newsletters going forward, keeping our volunteers in the loop and offering opportunities for anyone to jump in and help where and when they can. Many thanks to all the volunteers who fostered, transported, rebagged, volunteered at the Pet Pantry, did food drives, collected donation boxes, socialized kittens, cleaned traps and in countless other ways; without your work, we could not achieve what we did in 2019. New Programs for Culpeper County!

Humane Investigator

Thrilled to announce that Middleburg Humane Foundation founder, and court appointed humane investigator, Hilleary Bogley, has joined our team. Hilleary will be continuing her work as humane investigator for Culpeper and Fauquier Counties. Please follow the link to learn more about her role and work.

Chained Canines of Culpeper

Realizing a long-time dream of ours; Hilleary brings with her an already established program, dedicated to removing dogs from chains. While some have been re-homed or brought inside the home, we now have 7 dogs already untethered, living in much happier lives with large pens, dog houses insulated with fresh straw and, delivering food every month enables us to keep an eye on their welfare.

Internship

We have created the Cher Pennington Internship in honor of former CHS president who passed away 3 years ago. It is open to college and high school students, or anyone opting for certification in animal advocacy. This program enhances resumes for college or career applications.

Brand Sparkling New!

New Website and Branding

We are very lucky to have Vivid Creative owner, Marcia Degnan, take us on as a charity and create a new logo, website, newsletter and marketing plan. Lovely, creative, and an animal lover (also adopted Hazel from us), Marcia continues to develop and manage our webpage. Up next; new brochure and really cool t-shirts!

New Volunteer

So happy to welcome Brett Plaugher to our rescue as our Social Media Coordinator. With his background in HR, Brett is ideal for handling and responding to the many messages and posts we receive on our facebook page. His daily posts have also given us incredible feedback! Thank you Brett for dragging us into the 21^st century by adding us on Instagram, and for taking on some donation boxes!

Adoptions

Rescued 61 animals; 18 dogs and 43 cats

TNR Alliance Report

Pilot year netted us over 200 cats TNR’d (not counting the 60 kittens that were fostered/re-homed by the Alliance) that was only a partial year of 9 months and 3 rescues, now we are 4 rescues and our own trappers starting in January! Our goal is to spay/neuter at least 500 cats by year end 2020.

Care-A-Van

Through our Support-4-Paws (free spay / neuter and vaccinations to people eligible) and our transports to low cost vet clinics, about 200 Culpeper County pets were sterilized. Word has spread and sterilized 86 pets the first two months of the year!

Pet Pantry

Over 1000lbs of pet food were distributed monthly, in joint venture with the USDA and Empowering Culpeper, now estimated to be closer to 1300lbs a month with the addition of the Chained Canines and feral cat colonies programs.

Transport to New Hampshire

We reconnected with a no kill rescue that took over their SPCA in New Hampshire, and transferred 10 kitties in December, all were adopted within 10 days. Thank you Bill Werick for transporting these kitties in one day, during questionable weather (and a lot of worrying on the wife’s part!)

Blast from the Past

We pulled Ronnie from a high kill shelter in Southern Virginia (as a VFHS member, we reach out to help dogs that are Code Red). She looked so sad and pathetic, but that’s all in her past. Just look at her now! So glossy beautiful and check out the manicure, that’s red polish, someone’s getting deservedly spoiled! She’s living the high life now, thank you Warren and Juanita for giving Ronnie such a beautiful happy loved life! Much love to Kyle and Jenn Sisson for giving Ronnie her soft safe loved landing. Beautiful work!

Just chillaxin’ in our nursery, playing, eating and getting socialized, our 3 new babies; Archie (male), Willow (female) and Tia (charcoal). Help needed in socializing; come play and cuddle!
